June 29, 2011 -- The Florida Department of Transportation has listed Thirsty Duck on its Innovative Product Evaluation List (IPEL).

Thirsty Duck Buoyant Flow Control Devices (BFD's) minimize detention storage volume by maximizing outflow rate. Depending on system hydrology and hydraulics, storage volume can be reduced up to 50%. In flood prone areas, Thirsty Duck can utilize excess system volume to provide additional flood attenuation. In environmentally sensitive areas, Thirsty Duck can utilize excess system volume for additional pollution abatement.

Products listed on the IPEL are "innovative products being promoted by the Department." The IPEL listing allows for use of Thirsty Duck products on FDOT projects with the approval of the District Drainage Engineer.

The Innovative Products Evaluation List may be accessed from http://www.dot.state.fl.us/specificationsoffice/ProductEvaluation/Default.shtm

The Washington State Department of Transportation has also approved Thirsty Duck TD Series devices for use on WSDOT projects. A copy of the approval letter can be found at http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/biz/mats/New_prod/bulletinFiles/07-12bull.pdf.
