LONDON, England, Jan. 10, 2012 – Following a three year trial between utility Severn Trent and Bluewater Bio International an order has been placed for the firm’s wastewater treatment technology.

The HYBACS wastewater technology will be used to upgrade the Ashbourne sewage treatment works in Derbyshire, which serves a population of approx. 35,000.

Four unit reactors, which power the process, will be provided to Bluewater Bio’s framework contractor MWH Treatment to complete the upgrade, scheduled for completion by May 2012. The upgrade is being undertaken as a result of a 45% load increase.

The trial plant was said to have demonstrated a “high level of nitrogen removal required both to meet and exceed the most stringent European treatment standards”.

The UK project win follows Bluewater Bio securing a contract in Bahrain, to help recover the Tubli bay region, as well as in South Africa last summer (see Water & Wastewater International story).

- Bluewater Bio’s technical director, Gary Hoyland, will be presenting a project overview of the Bahrain Tubli Bay installation at WaterWorld Middle East conference and exhibition, launching in Qatar on February 6-8. For more information, click here.
