Missouri Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications to fund projects protecting Missouri's waters from stormwater runoff pollution.

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, June 19, 2013 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications to fund projects that will protect Missouri's waters from pollution caused by stormwater runoff.

Pollution caused by stormwater runoff, technically referred to as nonpoint source pollution, occurs when pollution is released from multiple indeterminate locations making the sources difficult to identify and control. Eligible projects will protect or restore waters impaired by nonpoint sources and provide pollutant load-reducing practices.

Educational institutions, local governments, and not-for-profit organizations are eligible to apply and award amounts will vary.

Also sought are innovative nonpoint source stormwater control practices and projects located within the Our Missouri Waters Initiative watersheds: Lower Grand River, Big River and Spring River. Research and regulatory enforcement related projects are not eligible.

Applications are due to the department July 30.
