MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, CANADA, Nov. 5, 2013 -- LaFollette Utilities Board (LUB) in LaFollette, Tenn., has been commissioned a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system from Survalent Technology, a provider of smart grid solutions for the control room.

LUB is a municipally-owned electrical power distributor and water and wastewater utility owned by the city of LaFollette. LUB serves approximately 21,944 electric, 9,662 water and 3,541 wastewater customers in portions of Campbell, Claiborne and Union Counties. LUB is a member of Tennessee Municipal Electric Power Association (TMEPA) and Tennessee Valley Public Power Association (TVPPA).

The new system features Survalent's highly-available, open-architecture system based on the Windows Server. It includes Survalent's open system applications, including: WorldView, Command Sequencing, Event Data Recording, IED Wizard and Control Panel, SCADA Add-In, Remote Alarm Annunciation, Power Factor Control, Voltage Reduction, MultiSpeak Interfaces, SCADA Replicator, WebSurv, and Dynamic Voltage Regulation (DVR).

"As utilities invest in AMI, Survalent offers a DVR Application through a MultiSpeak interface that allows a utility to look at end-of-line voltage as a component of their voltage control strategy for demand response," said Steve Strauss, VP of Sales for the Eastern U.S. "This provides a maximization of voltage/demand reduction (also including down line regulators) while keeping the worst case end-of-line voltage over 114 VAC. Depending on peak demand cost, number of feeders and load composition, this can pay for a new SCADA system in less than a year."
