ROCKVILLE, VA, Dec. 30, 2013 -- Across the state of Virginia, approximately $3.4 million has been invested in infrastructure improvements to water and wastewater systems serving hundreds of citizens and businesses in a variety of communities.
Instigated by Aqua Virginia (Aqua), one of the largest U.S.-based, publicly-traded water utilities, serving almost 3 million people across a number of states, the renovation program was launched at the beginning of 2013 and will soon be completed, according to an announcement made by the company on Monday, Dec. 23.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates $6.7 billion of water infrastructure needs and $6.8 billion of wastewater infrastructure needs in the state of Virginia over the next 20 years that are vital to public health and the economy.
