LOVES PARK, IL, April 24, 2014 --Earlier this year, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) awarded the Big Coppitt Regional Water Reclamation Facility, located in Big Coppitt, Fla., with the 2013 Domestic Wastewater Plant Operations Excellence Award for its exceptional operations and maintenance (O&M) practices.
Chosen out of 34 utilities in the medium-sized plant category, the Big Coppitt treatment facility utilizes an AquaSBR® sequencing batch reactor (SBR) from Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc. (Loves Park, IL), as its biological treatment system. Likewise, the technology is an integral part to achieving the high-quality water produced by the Florida plant.
According to the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority, the 2013 Domestic Wastewater Plant Operations Excellence Award is the most prestigious award available in the industry. Selection criteria is based on compliance history, record keeping and reporting, customer relations, and facility safety and staff training.
The FDEP presents awards to domestic wastewater and drinking water facilities throughout the state on an annual basis that demonstrate excellence in overall innovative treatment, waste reduction, pollution prevention, recycling, or other special achievements. Big Coppit's Wastewater Division Manager, Tom Pfiester, was among those who accepted the award for the utility.
