The Amritsar Sewerage Project in Punjab, India has awarded two contracts worth a combined value of AED103 million (US$23 million) for the construction and operation of two wastewater treatment plants.

Passavant Energy & Environment, a wholly-owned German subsidiary of Drake & Scull International (DSI) PJSC, based in Frankfurt, Germany will undertake the contracts for the two 95,000 m3/day projects based on the Activated Sludge Treatment Process in North and South Zones of Amritsar, Punjab.

Under the terms of the agreement, Passavant Energy & Environment will undertake design and construction, including installing, testing, commissioning and five-year operation of two wastewater treatment plants.

Dr. Mazen Bachir, managing director of Passavant Energy and Environment, said: “The water and wastewater treatment sector is currently witnessing a significant growth in India with the rise in demand for highly advanced wastewater treatment and waste to energy technologies.”

Passavant Energy and Environment in Asia is currently working on two key projects of combined value of AED50 million (US$13.6 million) in the state of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The company is building a Membrane Bioreactor wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 4500 m3/day for Ford India in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and in Nathdwara, Rajasthan.
