Waterboard Vechtstromen has awarded Cambi a contract to construct a new Thermal Hydrolysis Process plant in the city of Hengelo, the Netherlands.

Waterboard Vechtstromen has awarded Cambi a contract to construct a new Thermal Hydrolysis Process (THP) plant in the city of Hengelo, the Netherlands.

The THP sludge pre-treatment will approximately double the capacity of the existing egg-shaped digesters from 9,000 (8164 tonnes) to 18,000 tons (1632 tonnes) of sludge per year.

The doubling of capacity allows Waterboard Vechtstromen to shut down the aged digestion facility of Enschede, with the company expected to be producing 2MW of electricity from sludge treatment once the THP has been installed.

As part of the contract, Cambi’s modular B6 THP product will be supplied, having previously been used in Lindum, Norway as well as being installed in the Athens wastewater treatment plant in Psyttalia, Greece.

The project is executed in a partnership with the Dutch contractor Logisticon Water Treatment b.v, who will supply pre-treatment, as well as electrical and civil works and will be responsible for the project management and project coordination.
