WASHINGTON, DC, Dec. 18, 2014 -- On Monday, Dec. 15, Mexel USA LLC, a water treatment technology provider, announced an agreement with the University of Michigan (U-M) to perform a 12-month demonstration of its Mexel 432/0 cooling water treatment on a system servicing building at U-M's Main Campus.

During the demonstration, scheduled to begin the end of January, 2015, small amounts of Mexel 432/0, an innovative emulsion recently approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, will be injected into recirculating cooling tower water to address a number of fouling problems that can adversely affect operations and energy efficiency. University engineers will closely monitor system operations using a number of established performance indicators.

These results, along with economic and environmental factors, will be analyzed and compared to historical data for an overall evaluation of the project. U-M's energy services include the Central Power Plant (CPP), which generates and processes four main services -- steam, electricity, compressed air and domestic hot water, and energy systems for heating and cooling -- to facilities at U-M's Central and Medical Campuses that include more than 100 cooling towers.
