Major CA water distribution project to receive over 77,000 feet of cement pipe

Jan. 16, 2015
Northwest Pipe Company recently announced that it has been selected to provide 77,089 feet of cement, mortar-lined and tape-coated, spiral-welded pipe ranging in diameter from 24 to 36 inches for the Davis Woodland Water Supply Project in central California.

VANCOUVER, WA, Jan. 16, 2015 -- Northwest Pipe Company (NASDAQ: NWPX), a provider of engineered welded steel pipe products, recently announced that it has been selected to provide 77,089 feet of cement, mortar-lined and tape-coated, spiral-welded pipe ranging in diameter from 24 to 36 inches for the Davis Woodland Water Supply Project.

The regional project will replace deteriorating groundwater supplies with safe, more reliable surface water supplies from the Sacramento River. The pipeline -- being constructed by Mountain Cascade, Inc., based out of the city of Livermore, Calif. -- will transport raw water from the river and provide an expanded infrastructure capacity to this Northern California region.

The pipeline installation is anticipated to commence by the end of March 2015 and be operational by the middle of 2016. Once complete, it will serve more than two-thirds of the urban population of Yolo County, Calif. The primary goals of the project involve improving drinking water and treated wastewater quality as well as providing a new water supply to help meet existing and future needs. The supply will be owned by the Woodland-Davis Clean Water Agency.

"The Davis Woodland project was a very unique project, as it utilized the design-build-operate (DBO) procurement method for one of the largest 2015 pipeline jobs in the State of California," said Scott Montross, president and CEO of Northwest Pipe Company. CH2M Hill is leading the design and construction management effort for the project, and Mountain Cascade will lead the pipe installation (see "Major DBO project to provide two CA cities with viable water supply").
