RAWA celebrating the 15th Annual HydroMania with LVWS at Cedar Crest College

READING, PA, May 20, 2015 -- On Thursday, May 14, the Reading Area Water Authority (RAWA) of Pennsylvania participated in the 15th Annual HydroMania, a water education festival hosted by Lehigh Valley Water Suppliers (LVWS) -- a nonprofit organization comprising 18 public water utilities in the Lehigh Valley region of the eastern part of the state -- at Cedar Crest College in the city of Allentown.

HydroMania is a rain-or-shine event created to educate third- and fourth-graders from across the greater Lehigh Valley region on what a watershed is and how to protect it. Participants at HydroMania benefit from interactive water education presentations and take part in an array of hands-on classroom and exhibitors' activities.

A portion of RAWA's watershed is located in Lehigh County. Each year, the Authority volunteers at HydroMania to actively support LVWS in the protection of the watershed and water quality. There were approximately 1,200 students who attended the 15th Annual HydroMania, held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Since 2001, more than 16,000 students have attended this annual event, which takes part in two sessions.

The children answered questions such as "What is a watershed?" and "How can I protect my watershed?" In the process of discovering these answers, participants at HydroMania benefited from interactive water education presentations and took part in an array of hands-on classroom and exhibitors' activities. LVWS's mascot, Dewey (the water drop), also interacted with the kids all day.

The Water Authority also had the opportunity to escort school students to the numerous work stations set up inside and outside of Cedar Crest College. Many of the stations dealt with source water protection, water conservation and watershed protection.
