TWDB approves over $20M in financial assistance for water, wastewater improvements

June 22, 2015
The Texas Water Development Board has approved financial assistance of $20,275,000 for water and wastewater system improvements.

AUSTIN, TEXAS, June 22, 2015 -- The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), which collects and disseminates water-related data, assists with regional planning, and prepares the water plan for the development of Texas water resources, has approved financial assistance of $20,275,000 for water and wastewater system improvements.

Under the assistance, $3,080,000 will be allocated to the Northwest Harris County Municipal District No. 22 (Harris County) for wastewater improvements, and $17,195,000 will be designated to the City of Amarillo (Potter & Randall counties) for a water supply project.

The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects. Its financial assistance programs are funded through state-backed bonds, a combination of state bond proceeds and federal grant funds, or limited appropriated funds.

Since 1957, the Legislature and voters approved constitutional amendments authorizing the TWDB to issue up to $10.93 billion in Texas Water Development Bonds. To date, the Board has sold nearly $3.95 billion of these bonds to finance the construction of water- and wastewater-related projects.
