MO city better protects drinking water quality with disinfection system

COVENTRY, RI, Aug. 13, 2015 -- The city of Perryville, Mo., recently selected Neptune Benson, a specialist in water filtration and disinfection in the municipal, industrial and recreational water market, to provide its ETS-UV disinfection equipment in an effort to ensure that the region's potable finished water was protected from the threat of Cryptosporidium, a chlorine tolerant organism.

The city has selected two ETS-UV SX425-10 systems that have been validated by a third party for drinking water in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency Design Guidance Manual and NSF/ANSI Standard 61. Each reactor will have four medium-pressure ultraviolet (UV) lamps with automated wipers and will treat 1,600 gallons per minute.

The UV systems will be placed between the intermediate clear well -- below the gravity sand filters and the finished water storage tanks -- on the discharge side of the low lift pumps. The flexible design of the ETS-UV system is an excellent fit and provides a low footprint for an upgrade of the kind. The control system will be installed into the outdoor filter bay area and is manufactured to NEMA 4X to withstand the unprotected environment.
