Aug. 4, 2015 -- The South Rim Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), located at the Grand Canyon in the state of Arizona, will soon receive six highly durable non-clog chopper pumps from Landia, a Danish-based pump and mixer manufacturer, in an effort to improve operations.

The Landia chopper pumps, which are designed with a unique external knife system to prevent solids from entering the pumps' casing, will be installed adjacent to the plant's Returned Activated Sludge (RAS) and Waste Activated Sludge (WAS) basins, where they will pump the sludge while chopping up rags and other debris.

Receiving a gravity-fed daily average of half a million gallons of wastewater from domestic and industrial users, South Rim WWTP is managed by the National Park Service, based in the city of Flagstaff, Ariz.

With the help of volunteers and park partners, The National Park Service (established 1916) safeguards more than 400 places, preserving local history, celebrating local heritage, and creating close-to-home opportunities for kids and families to get outside, be active and have fun.

Attracting over 4 million visitors each year, the Grand Canyon has a unique water management system, which is vital to its sustainability. The Landia chopper pumps are manufactured with a design-life of 20-plus years.
