Orlando to Host Power-Gen International 2010

Recently celebrating 20 years of serving the power industry, Power-Gen International is the largest power industry conference and exhibition in North America, providing comprehensive coverage of trends, technologies and issues facing the generation sector.

More than 1,200 companies from all sectors of the industry exhibit each year and more than 18,000 attendees come together at Power-Gen for a horizontal look at the industry with key emphasis on new solutions and innovations for the future.

Once again Nuclear Power International, now in its fourth year, will be co-located with Power-Gen International. Victaulic, a manufacturer of mechanical pipe joining systems, has developed a clean EPDM gasket compound that may reduce microbial growth in reverse osmosis (RO) systems. The gasket does not contribute to microbial growth that can clog membranes, thereby reducing costs and plant downtime due to maintenance and replacement of filtration media. The development of the new gasket compound was a result of research conducted by the Victaulic research team, which revealed that gaskets commonly used in RO systems can contribute to membrane biofouling through the introduction of nutrients that feed microorganisms. Pumps

Eimco's Dual Flow and Conversion Band Screens eliminate debris carry-over in cooling water systems. The screens operate parallel to the channel, separating the influent from effluent, only allowing screened water to pass downstream. The units screen on two surfaces simultaneously, allowing the machine to be half the effective width of conventional screens. The Schreiber Fuzzy Filter uses a compressible media filter that permits adjustment of the filter pore size to meet process changes. The high rate, compact and modular system can handle loading rates of 30+ gpm/ft2 and requires 20% of the space for sand filters. Applications for the Power Industry include cooling water side stream filtration, pre-RO for boiler feed water, influent river water and wastewater tertiary treatment. The filters use air scouring in the wash cycle to clean the media. During the wash cycle, influent continues to enter the filter (filtered water is not necessary for washing) while an external blower supplies air in the bottom of the chamber to agitate the media. Zero liquid discharge

The company will exhibit its Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) approach to water treatment. The ZLD System completely removes dissolved solids from wastewater and returns clean water to the process. Condensate polishing
