RF meter reading system

Metron Farnier, a producer of Single-Jet water meters, has introduced MFRF, a new radio frequency meter reading system. The system reads Ramar Technology radio transponders and allows the user to collect meter readings remotely from a passing vehicle. Two models of operation are available, one for sequential "read by read" operation and the other for rapid mass data reception. Ramar's digital FM transmission technique maximizes range and efficiency.

Pit module

The 402-1 ERT pit module is the latest addition to Itron's line of AMR modules for the water market. By supporting meter protocols for all major water meter manufactures, the ERT is an open-architecture solution that extends the operational benefits of AMR technology to pit-set meters. A radio device, the ERT is used with the company's Off-Site Meter Reading, Mobile AMR and Network AMR systems. When the unit receives a radio frequency wake-up call, it automatically transmits the data. The module features a diecast aluminum and nylon housing with specially coated electronics designed for the harsh pit environment.

The ADFM Velocity Profilertrademark works in open channels or closed pipes and provides accurate flow measurements. It eliminates in-situ, manual calibrations. The unit measures velocity at many points throughout the depth-of-flow. The design allows simple installation that is virtually maintenance free. It can be installed in complex, non-uniform hydraulic conditions without compromising data quality.

Metering systems

Invensys Metering Systems, formerly Sensus Technologies, offers a comprehensive line of AMR systems to meet a variety of utility budgets and objectives. The company's AMR systems are based on absolute encoder-register technology, which provides for mixing and matching within a utility's metering system, and easy upgrading from one AMR technology to another. The company's offerings include TouchReadRegistered, with which meters are read by merely touching a TouchGun reader/recorder to a data-transfer module mounted on an outside wall for inside-set meters, or to a TouchPad mounted in a meter box lid. With RadioReadRegistered, meter ID and reading data are radio-transmitted either to a hand-held, solid-state interrogator-recorder carried by a meter reader walking the route, or to a recorder that can be placed in a vehicle for driving the route.

Propeller meter

The FM104/184 MainLinetrademark electronic propeller meter from Sparling Instruments features fewer moving parts and a rugged design. The battery powered electronic rate/totalizer senses the propeller rotation via a magnetic pickup sensor located in the gearbox and translates these pulses to rate and total flow. The electronics are isolated from the flow stream in a NEMA-4X enclosure. A photoelectric cell activates the display when the cover is opened. The display goes into "sleep mode" when the cover is closed. The non-volatile EEPROM memory holds all meter parameters. An optional programming unit can be used in the field to modify parameters including full scale, span, K, engineering units, and dampening to suit changing needs.

Corrosion protection lining

The MxUltraMagtrademark uses Ultraliner Technologytrademark, a fluidized bed application of 3Mtrademark fusion-bonded Scotchcoat epoxy coating to line the meter, creating a highly effective electric insulator. It protects valuable meters from corrosion and chemical attacks common in municipal water and wastewater systems. The meter offers non-intrusive flow measurement, high accuracy and durability. It is more resistant to abrasion and delamination failures. Other notable features of the meter include an accuracy rate of +/- 0.5 %, velocity range of 0.2 to 34 FPS and a pressure rating of 150 or 300 psi.
