Chlorine measurement

Extech Instruments, a supplier of test and measurement equipment for the industrial marketplace, has announced a patent pending direct measurement technique of total chlorine for its ExStikTotal Residual Chlorine meter, model CL200. The CL200 monitors Residual Chloramines and Total Chlorine including free chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine bound to nitrogenous compounds. The “stick” meter uses a patent pending flat surface electrode for measurements in liquids, semi-solids and solids. The meter provides direct reading of Total Chlorine from 0.01 to 10 ppm and eliminates the need to store and transport a sample solution back to the lab for analysis. The method has been approved by the EPA as an acceptable alternative method for 40 CFR Part 136 wastewater compliance monitoring. Accuracy is unaffected by sample color or turbidity.

Process gauge

Ametek U.S. Gauge’s all-welded process gauge and diaphragm seal offers customers a lower cost alternative to an individual gauge and diaphragm seal with the added benefit of a reduction in potential leaks. The company’s Solfrunt1981 process gauge with stainless steel internals is mounted and welded onto an Ametek M&G diaphragm seal. The diaphragm seal is available with either 316L stainless steel or HaselloyC wetted parts. The unit’s all-welded seal-to-gauge design and seamless Bourdon tube provide fewer leak paths than competitive models. Standard units have a female top for the instrument connection and a 1/2" NPT male bottom for the process connection.

Sauereisen’s SewerSeal No. F-170 seals, restores and protects underground infrastructure. The product is a durable, calcium aluminate-based lining that prevents water infiltration to underground infrastructure. Its versatility allows for use in manholes and lift stations regardless of the type of substrate - concrete, brick or steel. An economical waterstop material, it also resists microbiologically induced corrosion common to the municipal environment.

The Gorilla Pump features a positive-displacement double-diaphragm design. It will pump sludge with 10-15% solids, water, mud, sand, gravel and can pass solid objects to 1". The pump has up to 24' suction lift and 75' of dynamic head and will self prime at 12'-14' depending on the material being pumped. The pump can run dry forever with no damage making it good for intermittent water conditions. The 6.8 hp Lombardini diesel engine will run for 40 hours on a full 8 gallon tank of fuel.

Machine screw actuator

A new Three-Ton Machine Screw Actuator From Duff Norton is designed for applications requiring positive mechanical positioning. The actuator has a standard 24.2 efficiency rating, can be driven at 2 horsepower maximum, and is available with Top Plate, Clevis End, or Threaded End mounts. It can be driven either by a manual crank or via gear motor, which is connected to the horizontal worm shaft. Translating contact is made between the bronze worm gear and the turning worm shaft. The machined inner diameter of the worm gear makes sliding contact, propelling the lifting screw back and forth. Most Duff Norton machine screw actuator models with high worm gear ratios are self-locking and will hold heavy loads in position indefinitely without creep. With lifts up to 20 ft., the actuators come in many standard models, or can be custom designed for any application up to 250 tons.

Polymer control system

Chemtrac Systems’ Polymer Control System model PCS5500 can help optimize polymer dosage on all types of clarifiers, and many dewatering machines such as centrifuges, belt filter presses, gravity belt thickeners, dissolved air flotation, and screw presses. Typical savings range from 20% - 40%. Additional savings are often realized due to increased reduction in cake dryness, resulting in dramatic disposal costs. Other benefits realized from optimizing polymer dosages are reduced recycled solids, longer belt filter life and/or reduced belt cleaning. The PCS5500 is equipped with the high sample flow rate (10 gpm) Dura Trac II sensor, and Sensor Maintenance Module (SMM). The sensor can be disassembled in a few seconds if more extensive cleaning is required.
