Pepperl+Fuchs CorrTran® MV Corrosion Detection Transmitters can provide multivariable outputs, including general and local corrosion rates and conductivity, from a single transmitter.

Corrosion detection

Pepperl+Fuchs CorrTran® MV Corrosion Detection Transmitters can provide multivariable outputs, including general and local corrosion rates and conductivity, from a single transmitter. The transmitters can now deliver that information wirelessly via the WirelessHART protocol. This functionality allows users to determine the effectiveness of their corrosion inhibitors. Both WirelessHART and standard HART model transmitters use a new algorithm of the LPR (Linear Polarization Resistance), HDA (Harmonic Distortion Analysis) and ECN (ElectroChemical Noise) measurement for corrosion monitoring. They also automatically calculate and update the Stern-Geary value (B-value) due to changes in other process variables to maintain accuracy.

PVC lining system

T-Lock®, a PVC sheet lining system from Ameron Protective Linings Division, can be used to provide long-term corrosion protection for precast concrete pipe and new concrete structures. Precast concrete pipe segments can now be lined during the manufacturing process. The company's T-Hab™ system is used to rehabilitate damaged and corroded sewer tunnels where other products have failed. The company has also introduced the new Arrow-Lock system for sewer and manhole rehabilitation.

Lining system

Carboguard 510 SG is a high-performance aggregate filled reinforced mortar designed for resurfacing, patching and filling voids, honeycombs, and bug holes in concrete. The product is an epoxy modified cementitious mortar to be sprayed with a piston airless pump. The spray-grade product was developed to expand the standard 510, trowel-grade, product line and provide a concrete resurfacer with speed of application. Added benefits of this product include: increased structural strength over other cementitious mortars, complete packaging (everything you need except water), self priming over clean concrete.

Polyethylene encasements

Polyethylene Encasements, available from AA Thread Seal Tape, can be used to protect ductile iron pipe from corrosion. In addition to the industry standard Black 8 MIL Linear Low Density and 4 MIL Cross Laminated High Density Polyethylene Encasements (polywrap), the company also offers colored polyethylene encasements. These products are kept in stock to meet the needs of orders large and small. This means no more minimum orders and lead times for common sizes of blue, green, and purple polywrap.

Sealant

Flex-Seal Utility Sealant® is a plural component aromatic urethane with an 800% elongation and a tensile strength of 3200 psi. It is designed to prevent inflow/infiltration and to provide corrosion protection at the grade adjustment ring section or joint section. The sealant provides an excellent seal and will pass a vacuum test according to ASTM standards. The internal seal is manually applied using a paint brush and the kit is designed to cover 12 vertical inches on a 27" diameter manhole.

Sewer lining

Sauereisen SewerGard No. 210S is a fiber-filled, spray-applied material specifically designed to protect concrete and steel surfaces of municipal wastewater treatment structures from chemical attack and physical abuse. No. 210S's application permits economical protection of new and rehabilitated substrates. When cured the material provides an impermeable, high strength, corrosion-resistant lining for manholes, lift stations, grit chambers, aeration basins, and related structures.

H2S control

In municipal applications, the ECO2 SuperOxygenation technology eliminates the formation of hydrogen sulfide using a device called the SuperOxygenation Cone. Pure oxygen is dissolved into the wastewater to prevent the formation of hydrogen sulfide by keeping the pipeline aerobic. As hydrogen sulfide is eliminated, the "rotten egg" odor associated with the gas is eliminated and no sulfuric acid is formed to corrode conveyance structures. The system can be used in force mains or upstream of head works and primary clarifiers to avoid costly corrosion problems in these otherwise hard to control locations.

Cathodic protection radios

FreeWave Technologies has announced the newest addition to its family of Cathodic Protection (CP) radios for automated pipeline integrity monitoring. The new IMCP 2.4 GHz is a pipeline integrity and cathodic protection radio that communicates at 2.4 GHz and complements the company's previously released 900 MHz versions. The radio offers monitoring and reporting of operational values of pipelines, storage tanks, structures and other equipment or facilities subject to environmental corrosion. The product line currently is available as a radio only with a turnkey line marker kit option in development.

Coatings guide

The SSPC Pocket Guide to Coating Information is a handy reference to those charts, standards, and calculations most frequently needed during surface preparation and coating application. The surface preparation chapter addresses key topics including abrasive selection, dew point factors, dehumidification, and ventilation while the application chapter covers application tips and techniques, proper storage, and commonly used formulas and calculations.

Polyurea liner

The patented SpectraShield® liner is a spray applied silicone modified polyurea system that is used to rehabilitate and protect wastewater structures such as manholes, wet wells, or wastewater facilities. Following preparation, the lining process begins with a first barrier coat of the silicone modified polyurea. This moisture barrier and adhesion coat becomes the inside layer of a multi-layered system. Next a surfacing coat of closed cell foam is applied. The foam fills all the voids, eroded areas, bugholes, and missing mortar joints, and restores the surface. Finally a second barrier coat of the silicone modified polyurea provides the third layer of the multi-layer stress skin panel.
