The United States faces a growing number of challenges surrounding water. Population growth, economic development, changing weather patterns, energy production, and a deteriorating infrastructure threaten to overwhelm clean water resources. Unquestionably, there is great need for new innovative initiatives and ideas that have a clear impact on the advancement of water sustainability.
To encourage and inspire such innovation, the Clean Water America Alliance has launched its U.S. Water Prize Program and is now accepting applications. The Alliance will recognize and award up to five U.S Water Prizes annually, to individuals and institutions for inventions, programs or initiatives in the fields of education, communications, research, technology, water resource management, or policy development to promote managing water as a finite, reusable and sustainable resource.
Any United States-based institution, organization, or individual is eligible to win a U.S. Water Prize. Applications should be made using the official form on the U.S. Water Prize website, www.uswaterprize.org, and must be received by December 31, 2010. Winners will be invited to an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., in April 2011, where they will be honored for their contributions and receive a commemorative award.
Founded in 2008, the Clean Water America Alliance is the only organization with the charter and mission of bringing together a diverse array of interests to create one integrated holistic water policy for America. The Alliance is dedicated to working with individuals, organizations and entities throughout the country; both public and private, to speak with one voice to forge a new vision for a sustainable water future.
