Lift station cleaning

Anue Water Technologies has released the new EP-1115 System for automating the clean-out of sewer lift stations. The system operates by re-circulating a small fraction of discharging effluent back to the well. In the process, the recycled wastewater breaks up any fat, oil, grease (FOG) and bio-film build-up. In the process of cleaning the lift station, the system increases dissolved oxygen levels up to 800%. Simultaneously, solids are homogenized which increases surface area of these solids and evenly disperses them.

Security, emergency planning

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) has published a new book, Security and Emergency Planning for Water and Wastewater Utilities. In the years following the September 11 terrorist attack, water and wastewater utilities have undergone many changes concerning security and emergency preparedness. All of these changes have been compiled, analyzed, simplified, and organized in this comprehensive new book. Topics covered include US federal legislation, regulation, and Homeland Security rules, plus Presidential Directives regarding utility security and emergency preparedness.

Ultrafiltration module

The DOW™ Ultrafiltration SFP-2880 module has been approved for water recycling applications, meeting the California Water Recycling Criteria (California Code of Regulations, Title 22). The criteria recognizes membrane filtration as an acceptable filtration technology provided prescribed performance requirements are reliably met. Performance criteria through testing must demonstrate the filtered wastewater not exceed 0.2 Nephelometric turbidity units (NTU) more than five percent of the time within a 24-hour period and 0.5 NTU at any time. The SFP-2880 adds 20 inches of length when compared to the DOW™ Ultrafiltration SFP-2860, but allows flexibility in system design by reducing the number of modules, required piping, skid infrastructure, and the size of the compressed air and clean in place systems. In addition, the larger modules produce a smaller waste stream for disposal.
