Automation technology, process control, automatic meter reading and security systems for water utilities will be the focus of the Water Tracks at DistribuTECH, set for Feb 7-9 in Tampa, FL.

Workforce and asset management solutions, GIS systems for water/wastewater utilities, automation process control systems and the latest in metering technologies will all be on display at DistribuTech, which will be held at the Tampa Convention Center.

DistribuTech focuses on distributed automation topics for the electric power and water utility industries. More than 200 exhibiting companies are expected to participate in the 2006 event, with many offering products targeting the water industry. Some 4,000 electric and water industry professionals are expected to attend.

Along with the exhibition, the conference will feature water-related sessions on such topics as Security technologies for monitoring and control; Distributed automation tips & techniques; Energy efficiency and cost reduction through use of automation; Data collection and information management; and Wringing the benefits out of water AMR - using AMR as a conservation tool.

A panel discussion will focus on the challenges water utilities face with training and retaining the technical personnel needed to maintain and operate automation systems. The number and sophistication of automated systems for the water industry is growing rapidly and water utility staff - many of whom have little or no experience with highly automated systems -- are challenged to keep up with that change. Panelists will each give a brief opening presentation on how they’ve dealt with the issue, followed by a moderated discussion/debate of the issues involved, with comments and questions from attendees welcome.
