Pressure control

The VARIOspeed™ VFD from CSI Controls is designed specifically for pressure control applications. As the flow and head conditions change in the pumping system, the VFD is able to automatically control the pump speed and maintain a constant discharge pressure. The desired set pressure is set using the VFD keypad. The pressure transducer measures the pump discharge pressure. The VFD is available from 5-150 hp @ 208-240V and 5- 250 hp @ 380-480V, single phase or three phase supply voltage. CSI Controls®, Ashland, OH, 800-363-5842, www.csicontrols.com

Solenoid valves

Assured Automation now offers the J Series Solenoid Valve for applications that require electrically operated valves. The valves feature a pilot assist design offering high flow rate with minimal pressure loss. These valves feature a spring return design that is Fail Open or Fail Close upon loss of electrical power. Cycle speed is fast, occurring in as little as 0.25 milliseconds in either direction. The pilot assist design only requires a 3 psi differential on either side of the valve. The valves are available in 2-way configurations, 3/8” to 2” with pressure ratings up to 225 PSI. Assured Automation, Clark, NJ, 800-899-0553, www.assuredautomation.com

Valve actuator

The new C27 actuator release from Cashco is the first of a new line of actuators the company plans to introduce. The new line can be coupled to any one of several body assemblies or valve body models. The C27 actuator offers higher bench ranges that allow for an increase in pressure drop capacities and an increase in flow capacities. Because the stem and yoke are shorter in the new actuator design, the valve assembly is also more compact. Cashco Inc., Ellsworth, KS, 785-472-4461, www.cashco.com

Stormwater chambers

Cultec has added internal manifold capability to its Recharger® 150 and Contactor® 100 subsurface stormwater chambers. This feature allows for design flexibility and also eliminates the need for fabricated pipe manifolds. Chlorine scales

The Chlor-Scale® from Force Flow allows users to accurately monitor how much chlorine or sulfur dioxide they are feeding from ton containers. The system also shows exactly how much chemical remains, helping prevent the costly mistake of returning partially full containers to a chemical supplier. The scale features a robotically welded box beam frame. It displays its weight information on either the Century hydraulic dial indicator, the advanced Wizard 4000 or the economical SOLO G2 digital indicator. Force Flow, Concord, CA, 800-893-6723, www.forceflow.com

In-line disintegrator

The Super Shredder® in-line disintegrator reduces tough solids directly in sludge or raw sewage lines. Its design provides a high level of open area to fluid flow, allowing for high flows with minimal headloss. The unit features a patented “spherical shredding” mechanism that cuts and shears tough sludge and sewage solids into fine bits. The cutters are constructed of hard faced stainless steel. Because of the spherical rotor design, the shredder has far fewer moving parts and requires much less maintenance than units with banks of cutter disks. Motor standards

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has published MG 1-2009 Motors and Generators. MG 1 is the standard for practical information concerning performance, safety, testing, construction, and manufacture of alternating-current and direct-current motors and generators. The standard, which was last revised in 2007, is produced by NEMA’s Motor and Generator Section. MG 1 has been updated to include the latest in international motor efficiency requirements; the section revised the motor efficiency tables for 50 Hz products to reflect those of IEC IE Code as per IEC 60034-30. National Electrical Manufacturers Association, www.nema.org

Wet well pumping

The Well Commander System from OCV Control Valves can assist in compliance with regulations regarding pumping into some stormwater systems. The system can measure the wet well depth, decide if pumping is needed, then start the pump and control the rate and/or volume of water being pumped into the stormwater system. Options can be added to remotely control the process, such as to inhibit the operation during problem times and other scheduling functions. Digital interaction may be added, such as email or text messages regarding when the system is pumping, how much is being pumped and at what volume.
