  1. Avoiding trouble and saving money in water distribution operations

Water distribution operators do a nice job running their water systems. However, wouldn't it be better if they had a tool to support their decisions with an eye toward reducing energy use or quickly dealing with emergencies and other special events such as pipe breaks, fires, shutdowns and unusual demands? Operators have such a tool in the hydraulic model of their system. With a model, such as those created in WaterGEMS or WaterCAD, they can simulate and verify their decisions without risk and with minimal effort. Whether the model is run by an operator, an engineer in planning or design, or an outside consultant, a hydraulic model of the system can reduce risk in decision making and point out ways to save money. Water utilities have already invested in creating their hydraulic model. This is another way that the model can pay back that investment. Join Bentley's Tom Walski who has worked on these kinds of problems and will point out ways you can take advantage of hydraulic models for better operation of your infrastructure.
