GE Water & Process Technologies, a unit of General Electric Co., has enhanced its Electrodialysis Reversal (EDR) solutions for water and wastewater treatment applications. The company is now providing pre-engineered, skid mounted components for pumps, valves and pipes. This reduces engineering and lifecycle costs and speeds installation. The pipe skid, which rests between two lines of EDR stacks, also includes a walkway over the integrated pipes.

Laboratory information system

Thermo Fisher Scientific is Web-enabling its laboratory information management system (LIMS) offerings by using Microsoft’s ClickOnce deployment technology to create a solution that combines the functionality and performance of a desktop client delivered via a Web interface. With this new functionality, the company’s LIMS is installed once onto a central server. A URL is then sent to designated users, enabling them to run the application securely and transparently in a separate “sandbox” on their machines, minimizing its impact on the rest of the system, thus enabling easier validation and mitigating the risk of application conflicts so often associated with client installations.

Red Valve’s pressure sensors are now available with digital instrumentation. This makes it possible for direct mounting of gauges, pressure switches and transmitters for either digital reading or remote control. The pressure sensor can be either battery, loop or voltage powered. Digital accuracy brings a new level of control to pressure monitoring, pump control and digital input to a PLC, computer or system controller.

Suspended solids, density meter

The Markland Model 502 Suspended Solids Meter allows users to measure the concentration of sludges or slurries without the reading being affected by color. It uses the attenuation of ultrasound to read the concentration. The meter can be mounted in open top tanks or pipelines. It measures slurries that are too thick for optical methods. Ultrasound is inherently safe so it requires no permits or regulatory approvals to operate.

Solinst Levelogger® Gold is now compatible with PLC/SCADA systems that use SDI-12 protocol. Current customers can upgrade their Levelogger Gold to communicate in SDI-12 mode by downloading the free firmware from www.solinst.com, installing it and using the new SDI-12 Interface Cable. The device can be programmed to record on its own schedule, independent of SDI-12 operation; serving as an excellent data back up.

Duplex basket strainer

By removing particulate matter from the pipeline system flow, the Eaton Model 50 Duplex Basket Strainer protects expensive equipment including valves, instrumentation and meters in large size, high flow rate piping systems. Due to its duplex design it operates continuously, and system flow never has to be shut down to clean the strainer basket. The strainer has been designed with two strainer basket chambers linked by a pair of synchronized butterfly valves. This allows system flow to be diverted from one chamber to the other for strainer basket cleaning without shutting the flow off. The resulting straight through flow path helps keep start-up pressure drops low, even in very high flow rate applications.

Harmonic mitigation

Danfoss Drives has engineered a new Active Filter solution that virtually eliminates harmonic distortion in water and wastewater drive applications. The filter is built on the company’s VLT variable frequency drive technology. It is engineered to mitigate harmonics to a lower level than passive and 18 pulse options, and it will do so from any point of installation; either at the drive or the common point of coupling. The active filter will adapt to and perform in a dynamic set of conditions with variations in the installation, while improving the power factor and canceling harmonic distortion.

The new Accusonic Model 7720 Transit-Time Flowmeter measures up to 10 paths in as many as four separate pipes or channels from a single console. Measurable pipe/channel sizes range from 8" to 500'. Using multiple-path, chordal, transit-time technology, achievable accuracy is ± 0.5% in full pipes and ± 2.0% in partially full pipes and channels (even in the presence of flow profile distortions and cross flow).

Flush diaphragm transmitter

Dwyer has released its Series FDT Flush Diaphragm Transmitter. The transmitter is designed for highly cyclical conditions. The flush sensor feature prevents any potential inaccuracies due to build-up or blockage which is a typical problem found in most non-flush transmitter sensors. Units have a non-oil filled sensor element that provides resistance to temperature fluctuations. Manufactured from a solid piece of steel, the sensing diaphragm can withstand the most abrasive/cyclical applications. Series FDT transmitters perform well in high cyclical environments with the presence of water-hammering or spiking.
