CA water agencies to showcase creative conservation campaigns as part of 'ConservaCon' event

Dec. 2, 2014
In light of California's severe drought, communications professionals from more than 20 water agencies across the state will showcase creative campaigns as part of "ConservaCon" -- a riff on San Diego's legendary "Comic-Con" -- during ACWA's 2014 Fall Conference & Exhibition.

SACRAMENTO, CA, Dec. 2, 2014 -- In light of California's severe drought, communications professionals from more than 20 water agencies across the state will showcase creative campaigns as part of "ConservaCon" -- a spin-off of San Diego's legendary "Comic-Con" -- during the Association of California Water Agencies' (ACWA) 2014 Fall Conference & Exhibition held on Dec. 2-5, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in the city.

The water agencies will display their campaigns -- featuring everything from public service announcements to mobile apps to themed conservation tool giveaways -- during a 90-minute showcase on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Costumed water conservation mascots from several local water agencies will be patrolling ConservaCon in full mascot regalia, adding animation to their agency's programs.

The three-day ACWA conference will also feature a delegation of water managers from Australia who will share lessons learned during the so-called Millennium Drought that gripped their country from 1995 to 2009. Among the delegation is Dr. Stuart White, director of the Institute for Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology, Sydney.

White will deliver the keynote address during the conference opening breakfast on Wednesday. The Institute was crucial in assisting water agencies during the Millennium Drought. He will speak from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the Harbor Ballroom and will be briefly available for interviews following his address.
