Ultrafiltration membrane

Hydranautics' HYDRAcap, a capillary ultrafiltration membrane for surface water applications, has been tested by NSF and has received ANSI/NSF Standard 61 Certification. The membrane modules represent state-of-the-art capillary technology, exhibiting up to 5-log pathogen removal, thus exceeding USEPA regulations for potable water use as per the Surface Water Treatment Rule requirement. The membranes can treat high fouling surface water and municipal effluents as either the primary treatment method or as a pretreatment step to RO for potable applications, ground water recharging and water recycling.

Open-channel flow meter

The American Sigma 980 Open-Channel Permanent Flow Meter can use three different level/flow sensing technologies and, in addition, monitor pH, rainfall, and temperature. This provides the versatility required for a wide range of applications including: surcharge flows or reversed flow conditions; weirs and flumes; and small-to-large channels. Other features include a flexible power supply that automatically regulates output voltage (100 to 230 vAC, 50/60 Hz); a large, easy-to-read graphics display; data logging of readings from three channels for 400 days; seven external analog inputs for consolidating data from other monitors; four alarm relays; a large wiring bay for quick, safe electrical installation, and a water resistant enclosure.

Wastewater pumps

The new Pumpex K-Series wastewater pump permits municipalities to gain extended flow output from a smaller, spacing-saving pump. The electric submersible wastewater pump series is designed to pump raw sewage, industrial wastewater and other contaminated and abrasive liquids. The electric motor and pump are built as a single unit and are designed for handling intermittent or continuous operation in wet or dry sump installations. A snap-in modular cartridge mechanical seal assures moisture-free motor integrity. A built-in moisture sensor and optional alarm connector protect the pump motor.

Electronic registers

McCrometer has incorporated an advanced version of the Electronic Register into its line of Water Specialties Propeller Meters for water and wastewater applications. The register can be mounted externally up to 50 ft. away, enabling remote readings and alleviating risk of enclosed chamber entry. The register only needs a sensor behind the meter's drive magnet to transmit signals. Another advantage is the eradication of friction traditionally caused by additional gears and parts, allowing for precise readings at much lower flow rates and optimizing the meter's turndown or rangeability. The register features a non-volatile memory, and its lithium battery has a life expectancy of four years. When the battery is removed, the register retains the totalized flow and programming information in its memory.

RO performance monitor

The RO Performance Monitor from RODI Systems is a single instrument designed to monitor all of the necessary RO operating parameters including conductivity, pH (or ORP), temperature, flows, and pressures. The monitor calculates and logs all operating data including normalized permeate flow. It predicts when membrane cleaning is necessary and eliminates time-consuming data logging and normalization calculations.

Cyanide test kits

CHEMetrics has released a new Vacu-vials® Test Kit (K-3803) for the measurement of cyanide in water. The kits are designed for use where on-line instrumentation is not available. It measures concentrations as high as 0.4 parts per million (mg/l) cyanide. Unit doses of reagent are sealed under vacuum in the company's proprietary self-filling ampoules. This form of packaging eliminates the need to measure and mix chemicals, simplifies testing and greatly enhances reagent shelf life. The kit employs the Isonicotinic/Barbituric Acid Method. Test results are obtained photometrically and are expressed in parts per million (mg/l) cyanide. Total testing time is about 20 minutes.

Filtration system

Made especially for low to medium flow applications, Amiad Filtration System's Brushaway filters provide solutions to low cost filtration. Because they clean themselves, they do away with the need to keep buying bags and cartridges. The Brushaway unit is made of nylon brushes on a central column touching the inside of the stainless steel filter screen. Turning a handle outside the filter causes the brushes to flick away dirt particles from the surface and expel them from a flush valve. Cleaning can be done during the filtering process without having to stop the water supply. Built of Polyacetal, the filters are well suited to harsh environments.
