UV disinfection
Aquionics' ultraviolet technology provides the high level disinfection required before reuse water can be pumped back to the environment or reused for domestic purposes. One Aquionics 4000-watt multi-wave lamp is equivalent to 18 conventional low-pressure lamps, allowing a smaller footprint and lower installation costs. Ultraviolet technology has no byproducts to harm delicate ecosystems. It creates no chlorine residual and requires no dechlorination prior to surface water discharge.

Gas chlorinator
The Regal gas chlorinator from Chlorinators Inc. is a direct cylinder mounted, all-vacuum system in which chlorine gas is drawn through the unit with vacuum created by the flow of water through the ejector. If the vacuum line breaks or is damaged, the gas shuts off automatically. The system also features a reusable filter that removes impurities while permitting flow rates up to 500 lbs/day. Additional features include a high-pressure check valve design that resists wear and damage caused by water hammer when the system shuts off.

Sodium hypochlorite generators
SANILECRegistered B25 and B36 onsite sodium hypochlorite generators from Exceltec are designed for water disinfection applications in smaller municipalities. The B25 will produce up to 25 pounds of chlorine equivalent per day while the B36 produces up to 36 pounds. Each of the new units features a single electrolytic cell, stainless steel support structure and an HDPE pallet. Exceltec's patented electrolytic cell passes direct current through a brine solution and produces a non-degrading, low concentration sodium hypochlorite solution, eliminating the need for chlorine gas, bulk hypochlorite and chemical additives.

Container scales
The Chlor-Scale from Force Flow Equipment allows chlorine and SO2 ton containers to be precisely monitored. The ability to track daily chemical usage by actual weight loss helps insure against under- and over-feeding of chemical. Also, knowing how much chemical remains eliminates the mistake of returning partially full containers to the supplier. The scale is available with the Century hydraulic dial indicator, the Wizard 4000 or the Solo 1000 digital indicators. All offer 4-20mA output signals for remote monitoring via a PLC or SCADA system.

Water main disinfection
Arden Industries offers the Dechlorination Bazooka, a system designed for water main disinfection. The unit attaches directly on a 2 OMEGA in., 4 in., or 4 OMEGA in. fire hydrant fitting, or a riser from the water main. By opening the hydrant valve, water passes through, creating a vacuum that pulls the dechlorination chemical from its supply container via a Rotometer Rate Valve Assembly. The Bazooka also comes in a 1 OMEGA in. size for injecting chlorine when sterilizing new wells and water mains.

Chlorine analyzer
The Hach CL17 Chlorine Analyzer is an online instrument that uses the USEPA accepted DPD method of analysis for measuring free or total residual chlorine. The analyzer is used to control the chlorine feed in the disinfection process, for control of taste and odor, and to monitor effluent residual chlorine. For wastewater plants, the unit is supplied with a self-cleaning bypass Y-strainer and larger tubing and fittings. A seal-free, solid-state mixing system reduces maintenance and improves mixing. The motion of the stir bar self-cleans, virtually eliminating the buildup of solids on the stir bar and in the sample cell.

On-site disinfection
MIOX has developed a new electrolytic cell for water disinfection with a free available chlorine (FAC) capacity of 100 lbs/day, effectively doubling the capacity of the largest MIOX on-site generator to date. Cell modules can be arranged up to 4 per control cabinet for a total capacity of 400 lbs/day FAC per system. The generators use only salt, water, and electricity to produce an aggressive mixed-oxidant stream. A lack of hazardous chemicals means a much safer working environment and no Risk Management Plan audits.

Chlorination system
PPG offers the Accu-Tab tablet chlorination system, which consists of three-inch calcium hypochlorite tablets with 65 percent available chlorine and a patented delivery system. The low-maintenance design has no moving parts. A portion of the process water, whether potable or wastewater, is diverted through the chlorinator. The water flow erodes the tablet, with the amount of chlorination being controlled by the inlet water flow. The chlorinated water is then returned and mixed in with the process stream.

UV lamp monitor
Solar Light now offers a monitoring system for germicidal lamp intensity in open and in-line water treatment systems using UV lamp disinfection. Designed for continuous operation under water, the GLM100 has a narrow spectral response for monitoring 254 nm radiation that will not respond to sunlight or other visible radiation. Typically, UV-C producing lamps must be monitored to ensure a lethal dose to microorganisms. Operator alert levels can be set for a specified minimal intensity that determines when cleaning or maintenance is required.
