KARACHI, Pakistan, June 24, 2005 -- Alfa Laval, a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling, reported June 14 that it received a contract for SEK 100 million [US$1 = SEK7.79] from DHA Cogen Ltd. in Karachi, Pakistan for a desalination facility including two multiple effect desalination units, with a total capacity of about 14 million liters per day [3.7 million gpd]. The final delivery will be during the second half of 2006.
The project is the first major desalination project in Pakistan for drinking water supply. It is driven by the requirement of additional fresh water sources in order to be able to further expand and develop housing areas in Karachi. The water will be used by a new local development housing area.
