Jacobs receives RWE Thames Water project
PASADENA, CA, May 10, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- A subsidiary of Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. received a contract from RWE Thames Water to provide engineering services in support of the planning and development of a major new water resource to meet the future demands of London and the surrounding Thames Water Region.
Officials did not disclose the contract value. The agreement allows the option of retaining Jacobs throughout the project's planned 15-year program to completion.
This resource development, the options for which include a reservoir in Oxfordshire with a potential useful storage capacity of 150 million cubic meters, is an essential component of the strategy to meet the region's long-term water demands. The reservoir would store excess flows from the River Thames during winter and release water to the region during the summer months. The London area's predicted growth of 800,000 residents through 2016, climate change, and increasing per capita consumption all figure to contribute to increasing demand for water.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Bill Mitchell said, "We are delighted that Thames Water selected us to provide engineering services for this prestigious project. The selection advances our strong position in the water market and the long-term relationships we have developed with the key U.K. water companies."
Jacobs (www.jacobs.com), with over 35,000 employees and revenues approaching $5.0 billion, provides technical, professional, and construction services globally.
