Hydrochem Ptd. Ltd., one of the largest water utilities and distributors in Singapore, commissioned Wedeco of Düsseldorf, Germany, to supply three BX ultraviolet systems, which are used to disinfect high quality water produced in the Seletar water works, also known as NEWater. The UV reactors are now being installed.
NEWater is wastewater that has been purified and processed under stringent regulations. After primary and secondary treatment in a wastewater treatment plant, the wastewater undergoes further treatment with microfiltration and reverse osmosis. Finally, UV light is deployed as an additional safeguard against biological regrowth.
Part of this water, which is primarily intended for industrial use, is fed into the local drinking water reservoir. Conventional water works then produce high-quality drinking water from this reservoir. The NEWater project is expected to eventually reduce Singapore's dependence on imported water.
The BX 1200 system supplied are designed for an UV dosage of 90 mJ/cm2 and throughput volumes of 1,000 m3/h.
