August 16, 2002 -- When the City of Las Vegas, Nevada decided to construct a new $37 million water reclamation center to provide ten million gallons of recycled water to irrigate local golf courses, finding the right structure to cover the filtration systems was a top priority. Three Cover-All® Arch® buildings were the answer.
Construction of the Northwest Water Resource Center project in 2001 saved the City of Las Vegas the expense of increasing the capacity of the collection system to carry wastewater to the main treatment plant across town and pumping it back to 11 golf courses.
The construction of the Northwest Water Resource Center took place on a small portion of a 100+ acre city park property. The architectural theme set by an existing Community Center was to be carried over to the Northwest Water Resource Center. The green polyethylene fabric of the Cover-All Arch® buildings fit within the setting perfectly.
Project organizers worked with local Cover-All Dealer, Cover-All of Nevada, to customize two 26 x 74 foot Cover-All® Arch® buildings to ensure the buildings were the right size to cover two filter beds. A third 50 x 74 foot Arch® building, a standard Arch® building design, was utilized to cover an additional two filter beds. Gable ends were added to the buildings for increased shade protection while still allowing natural air circulation.
The three buildings protect the four filter beds from algae growth in the extreme Nevada sun. Algae growth occurs in reclaimed water when remaining nutrients and bacteria are exposed to direct sunlight. Algae can clog filters, dramatically increasing water filtration system maintenance costs.
The Cover-All® buildings' Duraweave® fabric is manufactured with a special ultraviolet protection coating which provides maximum protection from the sun's rays.
The center's three Cover-All® buildings were installed over the filter beds in just 12 days. The benefits of quick installation and clear-span space make Cover-All® the optimal solution for covering new or existing facilities.
"I believe the Cover-All building utilized as a filter cover provides a tremendous value," says Darcy Dahlem, general manager, Cover-All of Nevada. "A neighboring municipality is purchasing four Cover-All buildings because of the success of this project."
