West Caldwell, NJ, June 13, 2002 -- Hillsborough River Water Treatment Plant has recently installed and started up a large scale ozone generation system from PCI-WEDECO for treating drinking water for the residents of the Tampa & Hillsborough community.
The Hillsboro, Fla., project included two PCI-WEDECO Effizon(r) ozone generation systems each capable of producing 3,500 pounds per day (66 kg/h) of ozone. The entire ozone system will be able to produce from 7,000 to 10,000 pounds per day (190 kg/h) at high concentrations reaching 10% by weight, using oxygen as the feed gas to maximize performance and will treat 100 MGD on water per day.
Ozone is a powerful oxidant, capable of oxidizing naturally occurring constituents that can adversely affect water quality in the form of color, tastes and odor. Ozone is also an extremely efficient disinfectant for controlling harmful bacteria, viruses and protozoa including Cryptosporidium and Giardia, to ensure safe drinking water for consumers.
Using ozone significantly reduces the amount of chlorine required minimizing the potential for chlorinated by-product formation, while producing excellent tasting, microbiologically safe drinking water. Ozone is also a cost effective and reliable technology that is playing an increasing role in water treatment as municipalities continue to upgrade their systems to provide the highest water quality to their customers.
The EFFIZON(r) ozone generation technology is designed to be reliable and efficient for high concentration ozone production. The company was able to provide a complete system including integrated controls, factory assembly and full production testing. These capabilities minimized installation time and labor, which will ultimately lead to a rapid and successful plant start-up.
