Michigan, Jan. 28, 2016 -- Today, two of Michigan's Democratic senators rolled out an amendment to the energy bill that would provide federal aid to Flint for fixing its lead-contaminated water supply.
Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters authored the amendment, which wculd provide as much as $400 million to repair and replace lead pipes, create a $200 million research center on lead exposure in Flint and compel the U.S. EPA to forgive about $20 million in water infrastructure loans through the agency's state revolving fund.
The amendment would also authorize $20 million per year to monitor Flint's lead exposure.
