LOS ANGELES, SEPTEMBER 9, 2016 -- In the the last step in a citywide project to improve water quality, construction will begin soon on a new water treatment facility at the 99th Street Pumping Station complex in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Green Meadow.
The pumping station, located at 9880 Wadsworth Ave., distributesdrinking water to more than 20,000 customers in the Green Meadows and Watts neighborhoods.
Construction is expected to be completed in November 2018, according to a Southern California Public Radio station . The 2,300-square-foot plant, estimated to cost $19.1 million, is part of a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power project to replace the use of chlorine in the treatment of drinking water with chloramine, a combination of chlorine and ammonia.
