FRESNO, CA, JULY 11, 2016 -- The city of Fresno appears to have violated state law by not reporting water quality problems in northeast Fresno, according to TV station KSFN, Fresno.
In 2004, residents began to see rusty water coming from their taps, but the city did not notify the state's water quality agency until this year. The city did, however, hand out bottled water to some residents in 2004.
Kassy Chahaun, of the Water Resources Control Board told KSFN that there was a "breakdown in communication," which is why no earlier reports of the water problems were acted upon and reported to the state. Chahaun said the violation was a reporting violation, and that the individiual responsible is no longer employed at the city offices.
The city is now working with the state to remedy the problem.
