DENVER, Dec. 22, 2000 (PRNewswire) — Water For People (WFP) recently received $100,000 from the American Water Works Company, Inc., based in Voorhees, NJ.
This funding will raise the level of WFP's education and awareness programs by strengthening its financial position in helping people obtain safe drinking water worldwide. This special donation is in addition to the company's annual parent company $20,000 contribution.
"We hope this financial support will be helpful in aiding the organization to develop a reliable and stable financial base for many years to come," said Gerald C. Smith, retired senior vice president of American Water Works and WFP's board president.
Water For People will use the contribution to support three specific fund raising programs: greatly expand current payroll deduction programs throughout utilities in North America, develop planned giving as an income stream, and fuel these endeavors with a new education and awareness outreach effort.
"We are very grateful to the entire American Water Works family for its commitment to WFP," said Executive Director Paul Sobiech. "Since 1994, the company, its 23 subsidiaries and over 5,000 employees have all supported Water For People and the work we do in developing countries in a variety of ways."
