Floodplain management expert joins AMEC as technical director for water resources

Doug Plasencia, a nationally recognized expert in flood protection and floodplain management, has joined AMEC's Earth & Environmental operations as Technical Director for Water Resources.

Phoenix, Ariz., March 5, 2003 -- Doug Plasencia, a nationally recognized expert in flood protection and floodplain management, has joined AMEC's Earth & Environmental operations as Technical Director for Water Resources. His office is in Phoenix, but he will serve clients and assist AMEC's Earth & Environmental offices throughout the Western U.S.

Plasencia, a Professional Engineer and Certified Floodplain Manager, brings more than 18 years of professional, technical and administrative experience in floodplain management. He has managed projects throughout the west, including Arizona, California, Nevada and Oregon, and has won numerous awards for his work.

"Local, state and federal clients and flood control districts will benefit from Doug's leadership experience in many areas, including hydrologic-hydraulic engineering, floodplain mapping, flood control and drainage design, stream restoration and the application of the National Flood Insurance Program," said Jim Oliver, AMEC Vice President and Water Resources Director.

Plasencia has served as Chief of Watershed Management for the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, as Chief of Flood Protection for the Commonwealth of Virginia and, most recently, as Vice President with Kimley-Horn & Associates.

He is a past chairman of the Association of State Floodplain Managers and a former member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency Advisory Board. Congress, federal agencies and the President's Office all have sought his policy input in the past. Doug also is an invited presenter for this year's World Water Forum in Kyoto, Japan.
