AWWA announced that its web site has received the Standard of Excellence WebAward in the 2003 WebAward Competition, hosted by the Web Marketing Association.

DENVER, Colo., Oct. 8, 2003 -- The American Water Works Association (AWWA), the authoritative resource on safe drinking water, announced that its web site has received the Standard of Excellence WebAward in the 2003 WebAward Competition, hosted by the Web Marketing Association.

The AWWA site, www.awwa.org, was praised by the judges for a nicely coded site that provides clear navigation and a clear mission, making for a useful and informative site.

Established in 1881, AWWA is the oldest and largest nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to safe drinking water in North America. AWWA has over 57,000 members worldwide, and its 4,700 utility members serve 80 percent of America's population.

This is the second Standard of Excellence WebAward the AWWA site has received; AWWA received the 2002 award for its redesign of the site. The AWWA site was selected over 1,000 entries from 19 countries. Entries were judged on design, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, ease of use, and use of technology. The competition was judged by a Web Marketing Association panel of independent Internet professionals representing a variety of relevant disciplines of Web site development.

"It's an honor to be recognized as one of the best Web sites on the Internet," said Cha Snyder, AWWA Web Operations Manager. "As we strive to provide timely and applicable information on the drinking water profession, it's an honor to be recognized by the Web site community for excellence in Web technologies."

AWWA's six core competencies serve as the site's main content areas, and each competency has its own front page. In addition, the Web site's 'Community Pages' provide the drinking water profession with a Consumer Water Center, discussion forums, links to calendar and events, a Career Center, and links to other drinking water Web sites.

AWWA is the authoritative resource for knowledge, information and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of drinking water in North America and beyond. AWWA is the largest organization of water professional in the world. AWWA advances public health, safety and welfare by uniting the efforts of the full spectrum of the drinking water community. Through our collective strength we become better stewards of water for the greatest good of the people and the environment.
