Trojan Technologies Awarded Contract To Supply UV Disinfection Equipment To North Battleford, Saskatchewan

Trojan Technologies announced today that it has been awarded a contract to supply ultraviolet (UV) disinfection technology to the City of North Battleford, Saskatchewan.

LONDON, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 2001--Trojan Technologies Inc. (TSE:TUV. - news) announced today that it has been awarded a contract to supply ultraviolet (UV) disinfection technology to the City of North Battleford, Saskatchewan.

The contract, valued at approximately C$100,000, is for two Trojan UVSwift(TM) municipal drinking water disinfection systems to disinfect 2.9 million gallons (12.6 million litres) of water each day supplied to the City's 14,000 residents.

``The residents of North Battleford, can feel confident that the systems are in place to ensure that the water will be safe,'' said Randy Strelioff, Director of Public Works and Engineering for North Battleford ``A number of options were considered and UV disinfection was chosen as an additional treatment barrier to protect the safety of our drinking water.''

``After review of selected proposals, Trojan Technologies Inc. was chosen as the supplier for this project,'' said Rodger McDonald of M-R-2 - McDONALD & Associates, the consulting engineering firm hired by the City to oversee the upgrade of its drinking water treatment plant. ``Trojan was very helpful in providing technical information and in the determination of a cost-effective option.''

Ultraviolet light disinfects water by inactivating bacteria, viruses and protozoa that are effectively killed. Trojan UVSwift(TM), Trojan's municipal drinking water disinfection systems, has been designed specifically for the North American market in anticipation of new regulations in many jurisdictions that will require municipalities to implement a multi-barrier disinfection treatment strategy.

This is the third municipality in North America to choose Trojan's UV disinfection system for their drinking water treatment in recent months. Trojan UVSwift(TM) is a cost-effective disinfection technology that can be easily retrofitted into existing drinking water treatment facilities in a post-filtration application at a fraction of the cost and space required by alternative technologies, such as membrane filtration or ozonation.
