AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 15, 2000—A new alarm monitoring system has been put to use in Travis County to monitor lake water level for a drinking water department.
Travis County Water Control & Improvement provides drinking water and controls wastewater for a population of 11,000 people. Drinking water is produced from lake water which makes it necessary to monitor the water level so the tanks do not overflow or become too empty.
In order to monitor the level of the water 24 hours a day, the county has installed the DiaLog alarm monitoring system. The system measures the level of the water, and if a problem arises it will automatically dial a pre-programmed set of numbers to notify the appropriate people. Thurman Carlisle, water operations supervisor, said, �We went through two or three different types of dialers and found DiaLog, a product by Antx of Austin, to be the most reliable and dependable.�
The system calls on-duty operators when there is a power failure, an electrical surge, and system pressure.
�The most useful thing is, if one of the operators is having a problem with the alarm dialers or a problem with the circuit alarm, I can turn it off from my house. They took a complicated system and made it simple,� says Carlisle. The only time the employees see the alarm would be when they are on call on the weekends.
