MORGANTOWN, V. Va., December 26, 2001 — The National Drinking Water Clearinghouse (NDWC) offers the newly released 2002 Outreach Resource Guide to help readers find information on funding for local drinking water infrastructure and contact information for environmental agencies.
This updated directory lists more than 80 federal agencies and national organizations with water-related interests.
Each entry in the guide includes the organization's address, contact information, Web site address, water activities, and any publications they produce. For example, the guide lists the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service (RUS).
From their entry readers can see, among other things, that RUS provides financial help to rural areas in the form of grants and loans.
They also fund the Rural Water Circuit Rider Program. As with many federal programs, each state has an RUS office, so the resource guide lists all the state offices with their contact information.
The same holds true for membership and public service organizations listed in the guide—like the National Rural Water Association (NRWA). The NRWA's headquarters in Duncan, Oklahoma, is listed, plus their mission and activities.
The NRWA provides financial and technical support to utilities and helps communities promote sound water resource management. They also produce Rural Water, a quarterly magazine. Following the primary NRWA entry is a listing of all their state offices and Web sites.

The NDWC was established in 1991 and is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service. Anyone interested in providing clean drinking water for small communities can benefit from the NDWC's free services, which include On Tap magazine, more than 340 educational products, a toll-free technical assistance hotline, and three computer databases.
