• Board of Directors also names new vice-presidents and directors-at-large
DENVER, CO, Jan. 25, 2011 -- The Board of Directors of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the authoritative resource on safe water, today announced its next president-elect will be Charlie Anderson. Anderson will assume his new position at AWWA's Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE11) in Washington, DC in June 2011, and will begin his year-long term as president in 2012.
Anderson has worked in all areas of utility operations, including water resources, infrastructure and workforce development. He retired from the city of Arlington, Texas, as deputy city manager in 2005 and now works part-time with CDM, a global consulting, engineering, construction, and operations firm.
With a focus on member needs, Anderson has identified several opportunities for the association including improved use of new technologies, collaboration with other groups and leveraging AWWA's institutional knowledge to benefit many generations of water professionals. "Times of great challenge bring great opportunity," Anderson said. "As president, I see this as an opportunity to offer a member-based vision for the association."
In addition to Anderson, the board also elected four vice presidents. They are Dan Hood, president of M.E. Simpson Co.; Dennis Kelleher, senior vice president of H2M; Gene Koontz, senior vice president of Gannett Fleming; and Wayne Stiver, vice president of water utility services at the Peterborough (Ont.) Utilities Commission.
Two directors-at-large were also elected. They are Alissa Lockett, project engineer for the San Antonio (Texas) Water System, and Rosemary Burbulis Smud, a sales engineer for ACIPCO -- American Ductile Iron Pipe.
The new vice presidents and directors-at-large will also assume their duties during the annual conference in June.
