DENVER, CO, June 24, 2011 -- Jerry Stevens, General Manager of the West Des Moines (Iowa) Water Works, has assumed his role as president of the American Water Works Association (AWWA).
Pledging to work to assure "the highest water quality is preserved for future generations," Stevens accepted the gavel from outgoing AWWA president Joseph Mantua at the conclusion of organization's 2011 Annual Conference and Exposition in Washington, DC.
Stevens is a registered professional engineer and certified water treatment plant operator and distribution system operator. He has been a member of AWWA for more than 36 years.
Stevens said his priorities would be to optimize value for members, pursue beneficial alliances and partnerships, and grow leadership and development opportunities for young professionals.
"It was once said that the test of an organization is not genius, it is the capacity to help extraordinary people achieve extraordinary things," he said. "I look forward to working with each of you to achieve extraordinary things this year for AWWA."
