SAN FRANCISCO, CA, June 4, 2008 -- URS Corporation announced that it has been awarded a contract by the State of California's Department of Water Resources (DWR) to evaluate 800 miles of non-urban levees in California's Central Valley, and to assist DWR with managing geotechnical evaluations for approximately 1,600 miles of the state's Central Valley levees. The contract has a maximum value of $90 million to URS.
Under the terms of the contract, URS will perform historic data collections, field exploration, testing analysis. The contract expands URS' existing role in evaluating 350 miles of California's urban levee systems surrounding highly populated urban areas.
Commenting on the contract, Gary V. Jandegian, President of the URS Division, said: "We are very pleased to have been selected to continue working with the DWR on this critically important project. California has an immense interest in assessing the levees in the Central Valley. The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta is a source of drinking water for a significant part of the state, and the levees protect population centers and environmental, agricultural and recreational areas."
