• Company to continue maintenance of the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS)

SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, Va., Dec. 15, 2008 -- Science Applications International Corporation announced it has been awarded a task order under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Research and Development's Software Engineering & Specialized Scientific Support (SES(3)) contract to support the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS). The follow-on task order has a one-year base period of performance, three one-year options and a total value of more than $11 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed primarily in McLean, Virginia.

The SDWIS contains information about public water systems and their compliance with EPA's drinking water regulations, as reported to the EPA by the states. These regulations establish maximum contaminant levels, treatment techniques, and monitoring and reporting requirements to ensure that water systems provide safe water to their customers. SAIC has worked with the EPA to develop and maintain SDWIS since 1993. During this time, SDWIS has grown from one to 15 products used by the EPA, 50 states, 10 EPA regions, and 8 U.S. territories.

Under the new task order, SAIC will continue to maintain SDWIS products that support the Safe Drinking Water Act. SAIC will enable laboratories to electronically report sampling data to state drinking water agencies; collect drinking water data and determine compliance, report required information from states; validate, store, and archive data; and assist with data verification. SAIC will also provide user support, training, implementation assistance and production control.

"SDWIS products make it possible for the states to comply with federal drinking water compliance and reporting regulations, and the public relies on SDWIS data to stay informed about the quality of its drinking water," said Doug Wagoner, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager. "We are honored by the trust EPA continues to place in us. As part of our 30 year history of continuous service to the Agency and the public it serves, we are proud to help safeguard the American drinking water supply."

SAIC is a FORTUNE 500® scientific, engineering, and technology applications company that uses its deep domain knowledge to solve problems of vital importance to the nation and the world, in national security, energy and the environment, critical infrastructure, and health.
