DENVER, CO, Nov. 3, 2009 -- CH2M HILL, a global full-service, engineering, procurement, construction, and operations firm, is pleased to announce that Paul D. Swaim, P.E., Vice President and Global Technology Leader for Water Treatment with CH2M HILL, has been elected President-Elect of the International Ultraviolet Association. Swaim's term will begin in 2011 and continue for two years.
The IUVA has nearly 600 members across six continents, including water and wastewater utilities, regulators, manufacturers, academia, and others. The IUVA is a not-for-profit educational association and the preeminent source of information on UV technology as applied to water, wastewater, reuse and air treatment. The association provides a forum for the discussion of all scientific and technological issues that relate to the use of ultraviolet light, with the mission of advancing the sciences, engineering and applications of ultraviolet technologies to enhance the quality of human life and protect the environment.
"During my term as President, my goal will be to keep the IUVA growing as a vital, thriving organization that forms strong partnerships with related organizations and that effectively shares knowledge on the use of UV to protect public health and the environment worldwide," says Swaim.
Swaim joined CH2M HILL as an associate project manager in the Denver, Colo., office in 1999. His unmatched experience in delivering pioneering UV disinfection projects was developed through his role as project engineer for the first regulator-approved application of UV disinfection for drinking water in the U.S., to serving as technical lead for an award-winning UV project in Georgia, to leading several of the largest drinking water UV disinfection projects in North America. His experience includes many UV system planning and feasibility evaluations.
Swaim has served as lead author for UV disinfection technical publications as well as a presenter at several national UV seminars and conferences. In 2007, Swaim was named to the International UV Association Board of Directors.
Swaim has both his M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a registered professional engineer in California, Arizona, and Colorado.
