WASHINGTON, DC, May 19, 2009 -- Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) announced the release of $19.5 million for the Connecticut Drinking Water State Revolving Fund program and $485,000 for Connecticut's Water Quality Management and Planning program. The funds were released by the Environmental Protection Agency as a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The grant to the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program will allow Connecticut to capitalize its revolving loan fund for the financing for the construction of drinking water facilities, green infrastructure, program administration and drinking water related activities.

The Grant for the Water Quality Management and Planning program will provide funds for storm water management planning and incorporation of low impact development practices, the development of a water diversion database planning tool to enhance management of Connecticut's water resources, and a municipal aquifer protection agency training and manual. It will also enable the State to provide funding to eligible regional planning organizations for the development or revision of watershed based plans.

"Connecticut will greatly benefit from the receipt of the $19.5 million for the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund program and $485,000 for our Water Quality Management and Planning program." said Lieberman. "This money will help ensure our residents have clean, safe drinking water while protecting and creating jobs in our state. Additionally, the money will help Connecticut better manage our water resources for years to come."
