IPWR to host contamination, consumer communication event
NAPERVILLE, IL, Jan. 3, 2006 -- The Institute for Public Health and Water Research (IPWR), an independent not-for-profit research and education organization, is pleased to announce its 2006 inaugural scientific conference, "Water Contamination Events: Communicating with Consumers."
The event will be held Jan. 30-31 at the Renaissance Houston Hotel in Greenway Plaza, Houston, Texas.
It will focus on:
• Disruptions in Normally Safe Water Systems
• Water Safety Plans and Contamination Events
• Public Health Communication: Methods and Messages
The range of water contamination events and responses occuring in large, medium, and community based systems will be considered. Pre- and post-event communication strategies for reaching consumers will also be discussed, including best practices for communicating with diverse communities and special groups. A particular focus is the need to restore consumer trust post-event, particularly when events are persistent and appear chronic.
It's sponsored by the Institute for Public Health and Water Research, a non-profit organization based near Chicago whose vision is to improve public health through the consumption of quality drinking water. Incorporated in 2005, the Institute sponsors research, conferences and education focusing on the relationship between water and health. It's led by Professor Paul Hunter, chairman, IPWR Executive Board of Directors; Professor Pierre Payment, chairman, IPWR, Health and Scientific Advisory Board; and Jennie Ward Robinson, Ph.D., executive director.
