MONROE, LA, Nov. 17, 2006 -- Poly Processing Company has announced its recent recognition as the only polyethylene storage tank manufacturer in North America to receive NSF/ANSI 61 certification for chemical storage tanks.

Marketing director Brent Mothersbaugh indicates that the company sought NSF certification to meet the growing concerns of its customers who store corrosive chemicals such as sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid, caustic soda and sulfuric acid. Poly Processing's signature tank system, the OR-1000™, has met the requirements of NSF Standard 61 for storage of thirty-one different chemicals at maximum use levels. Products manufactured at all three of the company's facilities have met this rigorous standard.

"Some storage tanks designed to contain only water may react with corrosive chemicals and leach hazardous levels of contaminants into the treatment stream," said Richard Martin, manager of NSF's product certification program. "We tested the Poly Processing tanks by exposing them to these corrosive chemicals and then evaluated for any contaminants that may have leached out of the tank material into the treatment stream. The NSF Certification demonstrates that these products have met the rigorous health protective requirements of NSF Standard 61."

According to Poly Processing, the OR-1000 tank system is designed to deliver four times the anti-oxidants to the interior surface of the company's high-density, cross-linked polyethylene tanks than that of a regular polyethylene tank. The OR-1000 is known for its long service life and delivering an exceptional margin of safety when storing hazardous and corrosive chemicals. The tank system carries a five-year warranty for corrosive chemical storage when used in combination with Poly Processing's full drain integrally molded flanged outlet (IMFO®).

"As the lone manufacturer currently recognized with this certification, we have independent, third party assurance that our tanks are suitable for storage of chemicals used for drinking water treatment, he said. "Corrosive chemical storage has long been a concern especially for municipalities and corporations responsible for potable water and wastewater treatment."

According to Mothersbaugh, forty-three states require drinking water products to comply with NSF/ANSI Standard 61. "We think having this certification helps Poly Processing lead the polyethylene tank industry in a response to these concerns," he said.

NSF International is recognized as the world leader in standards development, product certification, education, and risk-management for public health and safety. Martin said that third party testing permits manufacturers to speak honestly about their products. "If we encounter problems with testing results, we can help manufacturers immediately track, research and correct the problem. When we view positive testing results, NSF and its clients recognize a given process as a model to establish the highest industry standards in manufacturing and safety."

Mothersbaugh says storage tanks manufactured by Poly Processing for use in drinking water and food applications have been certified by NSF since July 2005.

"And now, achieving NSF certification for storage of hazardous and corrosive chemicals is a milestone for us," Mothersbaugh said. "We see it as an added-value for our customers and as an offer of assurance that the polyethylene tanks we manufacture are safe, reliable and cost effective."

Founded in 1971, Poly Processing (www.polyprocessing.com) is widely recognized as a leader in the manufacture of rotationally molded polyethylene storage tanks up to 15,000 gallons in size. The privately held corporation is headquartered in Monroe, LA and has manufacturing facilities in Monroe, Winchester, VA and French Camp, CA.
