KANSAS CITY, KS, June 3, 2010 -- EPA has awarded $242,000 to Junction City, Kan., for improvements to the current drinking water system.

EPA Region 7 Administrator Karl Brooks said, "These water infrastructure funds will help to protect the biological quality of the water produced at the drinking water plant. The project will ensure that local residents are provided with higher quality drinking water."

The purpose of the project is to install three flow meters and an enhanced disinfection system to ensure that the water is safe from disease-causing organisms.

EPA oversees the protection of water quality and public health. The Agency is working with community leaders and the public to meet the growing needs and demands for our limited water resources. EPA remains committed to developing innovative and sustainable solutions for managing and financing infrastructure with public and private partners.
